Teachers play a crucial role in shaping children's character and ensuring their safety. Understanding the POCSO Act is a key responsibility for educators to create a secure learning environment. With this thought in mind, our school management organised a POCSO Act Awareness Programme being conducted by Ms Prishita Chaddha (B.A., L.L.B.) The key points covered in the session were: - The session covered the UNCRC definition of a child, types of abuse—physical, social, and emotional—and their indicators. - Myths about child sexual abuse were debunked, and "good touch" vs. "bad touch" was explained to empower children. - The origins of the POCSO Act were discussed, highlighting offences like sexual assault and harassment, with strict penalties for false reporting and non-bailable offences. - Schools were emphasized as vital in preventing and addressing abuse, focusing on trust and communication. The session concluded on a positive note showcasing the importance of the Act and suggesting that a supportive school environment, built through awareness and prevention, is essential for ensuring children's safety and well-being.
